Who's Got a Raleigh ! ..

That looks like a real nice cherry red metallic finish mate ;)so whats it like since you'd upgraded the parts and does it feel any lighter and tbh it doesn't really look that big ;) ..

It's a bit flexy and I think it's had a less than salubrious past, it doesn't have a frame number and I suspect that the grey of the regular frame was removed as was the head badge....The decals are not original either.....

It's a decent bike, the loooong head tube actually brings the bars up to a decent position and with the upgrades it's prob not hugely better / lighter but I prefer it.

I expect the bb to seperate from the Downtube or stays at some point, the seat post is wedged but at just the perfect height and as a baby / kiddie transporter it's perfect

I once beat 19 out of 26 fast German Enduro boys down the local double black on it, but for catching the rest too near the fast bits at the end it would have been more, I think they were surprised and there was a lot of pointing at the trail head....

Yes from what i read in the late 80's regards the Raleighs composite frames and such like that their was noticeble flex mainly in the BB area whach wasn't worrying as such but just wasn't to every ones liking and i suspect that these type of frames gradually get softer where their bonded creating even more flex then their was when new which some people will hate and others will find it comfortable over a long distance ..

Sounds to me that your rather content with the bike and i understand that as far your concerned comfort and nicely operating quality parts is all your bothered about as racing on it doesn't even come into the equation .

Sounds like you really enjoyed beating those germans down the double black and to be honest that's quite impressive indeed young man  so when did you say you were entering the world championships ;) ..

Always liked the ride of bonded Raleigh bikes.

Re:

Put 15 miles on it this morning. Great fun. Realised part way through that going out on a 24 year old bike after just pimping up the tyres, living chain and shifters is probably not the wisest idea... But it held up very well. Great fun to ride.

PIC before cleaning. Suspect it might never have looked like this before

That's just how the bike should be treated regardless of age ;) and for goodness sake don't treat it like a garage queen now it's been out on a proper ride as it deserves better than that :) ..

Wow ! he's been very impressive through the 90's and that's why i didn't know who you were talking about as i was totally out of the cycling during the 90's as their was alot going on in the family but yes Barrie was very very impressive back then and still seems to be an all round top guy helping out at events  ..

Like i've already said i have never ridden a bonded framed bike so i still don't know what i think about them ride wise but they do have a certain cool look about them ..

He's still riding, in 2014 he climbed Mt Ventoux three times in one day :-D

Very impressive but why would he climb Mt Ventoux three times in one day unless he was tyring to beat a world record unless he was doing it for charity but either way that's quite a challange for any pro to undertake ..
