Other than Thomson, of course?
I'm looking for a reasonably-handsome black/grey 400+mm seatpost for a build, need setback, don't want carbon and can't really afford Ti.
There's not a lot out there, is there?
Errrr, search ebay: 400mm seatpost returns 1661 results, obviously not looked through all of them but the few i lookrd at have set back, are available in blackand silver.....and variety of diameter.
Seems there is a few or am i missi.g something.
Diameter woukd reduce that number.
Truvativ Stylo, and also check out Crank Brothers.
Chainreaction also had/have a lot of Nukeproof posts on sale a week or so ago. The setback's aren't huge on most, but Thomsons are in reality only 17mm.
Great recommendations, thank you - the Truvativ & Nukeproof posts look great. The Stylo T40 has 25mm setback, which is enough.
I'd already stumbled upon the Crank Bros Cobalt 3 and the avalanche of bad reviews it got - a single Torx bolt isn't appropriate for a seatpost clamp, imo!
I also found the Ritchey WCS Link Alloy post.
Ah yes..forgot about the bad reviews! Knew there was a reason I hadn't bought one!
The Truvativ is cut at an angle in factory-fresh spec at the bottom, just in case you have an open-ended frame or one of those with a post-viewing hole (the post might not look far enough in, but actually may be!
25mm desn't feel like a lot, but it's nice to have the flexibility. It's quite 'strongly' branded at the top tho with grey & white so it fits well if you've got those colours on the bike, esp a modern frame, and the 2-bolt head gives a pretty wide range of angle as opposed to a layback Thomson for instance. Mine came in at 280g for a 27.2mm
haven't tried the Nukeproof posts, but if anything like their bars & seats they will be functional and lighter than expected, but wear quickly..
I've already struck the Nukeproof from the list purely on the basis that they don't make it (or any other alloy post) any more, so after-sales will be non-existent.
If I get the Truvativ I'd have to acetone the logos off. Might have to see one in the metal before I commit.
The Ritchey's more money but I think it looks great, and wouldn't need logo removal. I just wish I could get one in the Wet Black finish here. Really not a fan of shot-peened black alloy - one of the reasons I've always favoured Thomson when buying straight posts.
Hmm, let me see if I can assist with the logo experiment..
* Update: Acetone not successful. It will easily remove the grey block, but the white block and Truvativ Stylo wording are painted on & would need peeling off (paint remover etc) I tried the 'T30" wording on the back of the stem also and that doesn't budge as it looks to be laser-etched in or something.. Quite a complex attention to detail, admirable unless you wanted to remove it!
I meant that when you look at Nukeproof's site now, there doesn't seem to be any alloy (non-dropper) posts in their product range. That's not encouraging to me.
Ah, well Chainreaction owns the brand, so if they've got them they've got them! I never even realised they had their own website..
Found this in search tho; which leads to: http://nukeproof.com/products/seatposts/ Down under 'Specifications' if you click the 3rd tab, the Warhead 7075s are listed there. It's a crap site huh! not helping themselves..
