Same model as mine. You have the original handlebars. Mine lost them a few years after I got the bike as I couldn't get on with those hand grips, so cut them off, and eventually swapped out the bars for some from a more expensive model a friend scrapped. I broke the rear mech on a shingle beach quite early on, too, and the saddle, and delaminated the bicep on one arm at the same time. Bad day.

Yikes.....does sound like a bad day! great story though and agree about the handgrips, they do chaff the hands....I had the mongoose cobra grips on my Bomber back in the day and still have scars from the rubbing, but they looked slick.

My new project.. looking for an original saddle and rear wheel, Araya rim 26 x 75" & Suzue hub but otherwise original I think. Frame needs a damn good clean and some love, and the VP pedal bearings need some work. Been looking for a 23" for ages!

Nice project! such a classic bike.

I'm not sure on pedals, assume VP, but must be a data sheet somewhere to check.

Got mine about 12 years ago, to my shame i had it outside for ages.. it was much cleaner when found, but was just a runaround so didn't look after it properly, I have a few bikes so been in the gagare for a while, so at least out of the elements.

The grips were hard black plastic. No give, and my hands would get bruised and sweaty using them. I'm not even sure I know what grips it has now. I bought then years ago.

I have original pedals in the garage. Silvery cast alloy things with nowhere near the teeth that the old beartrap pedals had. Mine also has beartrap pedals. They're a bit dangerous, but good.

Beartraps are the best looking pedal ever IMO....they look as dangerous as they are!

What pedals are they? I might have a hunt on ebay or post here for some originals for mine...may as well make it stock as not far off.
