My vote would be for the Indian Fire Trail but is that just me?

whatever bike I was riding at the time was the best bike ever. it didnt matter what bike, just the fact that I was cycling is enough.

Much as I am loathed to say it, A Zaskar may be the ideal starting point, plentiful, can be cheap and ride well. (I only discovered the ride quality last year, and I was impressed) Still common as muck mind!

Common or not I agree, never thought I'd say this and hope Mikee's not around but Zaskar would be a good starting point

How many have you seen riding around in the last week ?

It's not exactly an Apollo or a Raleigh.
Come to think of it I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw an Apollo. Where as Zaskars, amongst range topping bikes that you see about, are probably the most common.

If I have seen any being ridden in the last week, they have not been memorable enough to recall here, however I have just seen this many just now on ebay. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/auction/results.php?search=zaskar&cat=cycling#result Some look pretty good value.

There is a huge amount of brand snobbery.
The smaller the production run, the better the bike.
Also expensive bikes MUST be better than cheap ones. Duh.

..or maybe not?
...

No no no, they are better. MBUK told me so, when I was just a young boy.

I need to expand my horizons, but I love DiamondBacks. Cheapish, great ride, can get top spec machines for a lot less than a Zaskar
