Where do people recommend for buying vintage break blocks?

As suggested. Koolstop can be obtained from SJS. Depending on what brakes are fitted. They have them for Mafac, Campagnolo etc. About 20 quid for 4, but they do actually work.
Cheap compared to dentist / mortician costs.

I get all mine on eBay. However - get the right type of brake block for the caliper / wheel combo you're using or the brakes don't work very well...

So for 80's/90's stuff with (for example) Shimano calipers and alloy road wheels use these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230971937764

For more modern levers and calipers then use the long narrow road blocks with replaceable cartridge pads.

I use both kinds you linked on weinmann brakes and there's no difference in performance whatsoever. The only incompatibility problems are in your head.

Kool stops or the like would work a lot better but I'm a cheapskate.

Fibrax have a "factory shop" on eBay - good service (think they may have gone P&P-free) and worth keeping an eye out for special offers. Think they do old-school metal/rubber blocks for both chrome and alloy rims; I only use them for modern blocks but have certainly seen some 1970s style Weinmann-esque ones on there too. For the really retro amongst us I'm sure even they do blocks to fit rod brakes designed for Westwood rims.

I use Fibrax too. And if the bike in question was made by a manufacturer whose name begins with "V" and is shared by a brand of green foil wrapped mint and chocolate flavoured biscuit, Fibrax might be what it came out of the factory with. My Aerospace Pro had ancient Fibrax blocks on it when I bought it. I think they are made in Wrexham too, which I quite like.

The shop title doesn't actually mention Fibrax - IIRC the name comes from the fact that one of the sales team, named Mark, goes all over the UK in a VW van (I think that's the gist - it was on the Fibrax Facebook page ages ago).
