Where did you buy your first bike?

Re:

First bike I actually bought with my own money was from PDE Cycles, Wessex Road, Yeovil, in 1989.

It was a sale model from the previous year, a Dawes Jackal. Didn't like the Muddy Fox I tried! It weighed a ton, had a lugged frame, and was too big for me. But it gave me my first taste of mountain biking and it pretty much changed my life forever.

My Dad at the time had some pseudo MTB from my Mum's catalogue with road tyres on, when we went out he had to stop every so often to turn the thing upside down and drain the water out of it....

Edit: Look what I just found! I look taller than I remember and the bike looks smaller....

Re:

Yep, it was 1989 alright....!

Note the baseball boots and sweat bands on wrists too....and de rigueur hoody top. I was one cool, hip chick back then

August 1992, Supabikes in Wellingborough, I wanted a Raleigh Lizard but walked out with a MBK Adventure because it had 200GS rather than 100GS! It was a 19" that I'd apparently grow into. I never got past 5'6", it'd still be too big now!

Hoody.............trend setter you

My first mountain bike was a Raleigh Massif which I got for my 11th birthday and came from Sandbach Cycles, The first bike I bought myself was a 1994 Orange Clockwork will full LX Groupset in blue and silver fade, that came from Leisure Lakes. It took a lot of paper rounds to pay for it.

Kaz: the countryside in that pic looks like a backdrop
And yeah, looking a bit Ripley from Aliens in that pic. :)

Anyone else as delighted as me when you got your first bike that was actually your size when you got it, rather than finally your size after three years of "Growing into it"?

Re:

That's what happens when you take a photo of a photo....no scanner!
