Where did you buy your first bike?

First proper MTB I bought was a '91 Avanti Revolution (e-stay) with full Suntour XC with those aweful X-press shifters. Brought it second hand out of the paper in 1991.
Ended up with M900 and Sach Wavey shifters. Then the poor thing got stolen when i was about 15
Have another one now exactly the same sans the Wavey shifters.

:) My first MTB was actually an emmelle cheetah which I raced!.

It was a catalogue job and I was pretty proud the day it arrived.

I soon found out that it was heavy & large.

Lots of time hanging around in the endless summer MTB shop, & saving looking at the Kona's and Marins.

I got my first serious Mountain bike a gorgeous new purple 1991 Lavadome, heady days indeed :)

My first bike that was bought rather than handed down from another family member was bought from Doggarts in Northallerton: it was a department store with delusions of grandeur. The bike was a Raleigh Roadrunner single speed that cost 42.50 in about 1977.

I bloody loved it: the colours, the huge riser bars, the chunky pedals and a rear reflector the size of a dinner plate. I had to buy lights, saddlebag and puncture repair out of my pocket money as part of the deal. I learnt some of the basics of bike fixing on that.
First Mountain bike was an 89 Specialized Hardrock from Sale Cycles in Chorlton. 119.99 and three sizes too big. Bloody brilliant though - weighed less than 30lbs - not bad for 1991 and 120 quid.

A Marin Eldridge Grade '91 from Harry Hall's in Manchester when they had a proper shop at Hanging Ditch. Remember feeling very guilty blowing £500 on a bike at Christmas, almost went into the Salvation Army to give them the money. (I was young and idealistic, fresh out of uni with a job that gave me almost a whole term's grant every month and no overheads)

Shorter Rochford Cycles Finchley in about 87. A Raleigh Magnum.

Always wanted an explorer? The yellow one.

First bike was a Chopper knock off, first mtb was a Raleigh Lizard, that was from Mum's catalogue book.

2nd hand Marin Bear Valley for me, bought in 1993 (and it was a '93 model) from Madgetts Cycles in Diss. I chipped in some pocket money savings and my folks made up the rest. I think it was about £300.

I rode miles and miles on that bike, as did my dad once I left home. Eventually killing it and scrapping it about 10 years ago.

I loved it to bits....and have managed to pick up a nearly new example in recent years since joining this awesome forum!

First MTB was a 1989 Diamond Back Arrival
Purchased from Cycle Sport in Grantham in the summer of 1990
Still if I shut my eyes can remember the smell of the new tyres in the shop and how excited at the prospect of riding it and getting it dirty.
Started racing on it soon after.
First new bike bought by my parents was a flouro yellow Raleigh Chopper which I rode off road all the time. This was followed by a 10 speed Sun Racer then an Ammocco then a Raleigh Scirocco which I loved until the day my sister and her boyfriend bought Alpinestars and I fell in love with fat tyres forever.
