What's your most hated bike job....? Me, rebuilding hubs...

Re:

Cleaning the drivetrain, (chain, cassettec rear mech, chainrings)... I have 2 boxes of latex gloves and without exception I always start this job without wearing them, once my hands are covered in black oily gak I remember the gloves, by which time it's too late....
It's probably the dirtiest job you could do on a bike, not counting removing dog turd from your tyres....but that's another story...

Working on other people's bikes is the only thing I hate.

And reading through this thread reminds me why.
Leaving their bikes until they are covered in black oily gack before you clean them, unable to adjust hubs or brakes, struggling with bleeding brakes, the list goes on.........

echo echo echo echo...

I agree with every word of that sentence. But I just cannot let a badly adjusted bicycle go. I cant let that person carry on thinking that cycling is a chore and bikes have terrible gears and brakes all because they just never bothered to pick up an allen key.

Re:

Adjusting rear mechs is my personal hell, or cutting a set of hydraulic hoses to length and pissing around with the olives and little nozzle bits, bugger me its a pain.

I'm complete duffer on front mechs

Cleaning skinwalls has to be my uber hated job. I just cant get over that many of these tyres will never be seen again so i cant help feeling the need to clean them up.
I was going to post a thread last night on 'preferred method for cleaning skinwalls' :? In fact i think i'll do that right now.

Skin walls are easy (?) to clean with very mild jif cleaner. Don't do it too often as I'm not happy about smearing bleach filled abrasive cleaner on the tyres.
But then, they generally only last long enough to need cleaning once or twice.
Could try swarfega as an alternative.

Re:

Finding the right cable tension on the front mech...
...
But in the end I always get it right

Too large diameter rims are a real pain also. Especially in combination with slick tires.
