What's your most hated bike job....? Me, rebuilding hubs...

Re:

Generally I love working on everything but cantilever brake setup is something I haven't mastered yet.

I don't clean my bikes as often as I should.

Re:

Going to join in my own post here and add - agreed about some rims and slick tyres combo!!

Why?? Surely a rim is a rim and a tyre is a tyre, how can they all differ that much!!!!??!! And mechs...I hate mechs....

Cleaning the drivetrain, (chain, cassettec rear mech, chainrings)... I have 2 boxes of latex gloves and without exception I always start this job without wearing them, once my hands are covered in black oily gak I remember the gloves, by which time it's too late....
It's probably the dirtiest job you could do on a bike, not counting removing dog turd from your tyres....but that's another story...

I'm with you there mate! My latex gloves last for years!
Also stripping pedals without losing the balls in the axles or buggering up the end caps !

I don't mind the DMR V8 type of pedal or pedals with removable cages but Shimano LX 550s really exhaust my patience  I wonder if anybody's tried modding the cages so that you can take them off :D

Lubing bearings in Shimano 535 pedals, and not having the correct tool to lock the locknut... Fiddling with screwdrivers, pliers and whatever else to hold the cone in place while locking the nut.

Removing seized bottom brackets. Always a relief when the bracket turns in the frame.

Never have any trouble getting mechs to drop right, setting brake blocks however...
Blood-boiler.

Cables are nice if you're using fresh new stuff - I'm forever trying to reuse odd lengths from the (massive, mis-matched) stash which is a royal pain. So it's my own fault for being so tight really!

Re:

I don't want to sound like a total c*ck here (but am obviously about to), but assuming that nothing's bent, indexing gears is an absolute doddle - I'm not quite sure what's happening to make it miserable for folks?!
