What's your most hated bike job....? Me, rebuilding hubs...

Re:

Well done that man!

I have the same issue with neighbours with old sit up and beg roadsters. Hate sorting SA 3 speed hubs, rod brakes, dynohubs....

'Oh I expect you can still get parts for it though can't you love'

NO!!!!

My neighbour saying 'can you have a look at my gears?'

3 hours of gloopy sticky gritty black shit removal, front mech un-seizing and his bike now vaguely works.

Got a tenner for me troubles though...

£3 an hour + a quid for a can of GT85, you can come work for me building my bikes at that price LGF

See, I like cabling up, find it quite relaxing.

Chain length set up, that's another dislike I have!

See I love cutting a chain to length. It's one of the best jobs!

Cabling up? Pah. Hate it!

Setting up Shimano DA - 600 AX front mech's is a ball ache as the movement travels in an ark
so when you think it 'looks' correct, it isn't as the chain holder hits the crank arm............

So Kaz, when someone mentions you have big Kahuna's, you show them your 21inch kona's right?

Hubs would be close to the top of my list. I guess it's a mixed blessing that few of my wheels last long enough to need the hubs looking at.

General troubleshooting is the worst though i.e. a mysterious click, rub or creak, or imperfect gears (you know the kind where you can get 6 out of 8 gears working perfectly).

I love cabling.

Spot on, boy, spot on......

No bloke can get close enough to spot my Kahuna's, big or otherwise... I'm too menopausal and damn scarey these days....

Hubs! See, that's a recurring theme. I'm working on the theory I will hardly use a bike enough to ever wreck a hub any further, so I'm just going to put an extra washer in to space it and be done with it.
