whats the best ever canti set up?

As Tall Paul said, STX and up are ok.

I was going to upgrade beyond the STX that were languishing in the bottom of the spares box but when I fitted them they worked fine with modern pads. Result.

I like Control Tech cantis. They're easy to dial in, sharp looking, and use cartridge brake pads, which is a big plus in my book.

They're getting sort of hard to find, but they do pop up on ebay once in a while.

No competition for me, Brooklyn Machine Works 'Snot Rockets', may look like v-brakes but they're not, they work only with canti brake levers. Powerful? Hell YES!!!

The thing I always hated about cantis and made me a rapid convert to V-brakes was setting up the damn pads. Talk about needing three hands, especially if you wanted to get some degree of toe-in.

Cartridge pads would have helped, but can you get decent cartridge pads for canti stud mounting? I know there's XT / XTR but £10.49 for a set of not-that-good replacement pads? Not good value IMHO.

From this perspective, as well as an aesthetic one, I rather like the look of the new Avid Shorty 6 cantis which take V-pads, very Neo-retro.

I'm pretty sure I had a pair of roller-canti's made by WTB on my Salsa back in 91-92, but I looked everywhere on the net and can't find any info about WTB making other than cambreakes & regular canti's, but -and sorry for repeating mysalf- I'm pretty sure I had a beautiful pair of WTB canti-roller's - so I say them...
