This is just getting weird :roll:

Agreed....

So, a quick rub through;
Lacquer
Blue
Silver
Black
Blue
Silver
Black
White filler primer :roll:
Finally revealed a fine carbon cloth but no weave…. Never mind, even with the odd seam I think this will still look cool in clear coat… :cool:

Re:

Looks more like a diolen top cloth as you can't weave carbon fibre that fine but agreed will look alot cooler than the blue.

Diolen.... always wondered what is was called. :D

Quote from East Coast Fibreglass Supplies;

Diolen Polyester Fibre is a low density (1.3g/cm3), high tenacity fibre which has good impact characteristics due to it's very high elongation and break, however, the young modulus is very low. It is used in applications where high stiffness is not a requirement, but where low weight, high impact resistance and high abrasion resistance is important.

Re:

Spent alot of my youth building and repairing Kayaks so have am intimate knowledge of Diolen, Chop strand mat, kevlar and carbon fibre.

Re:

I hope you're collecting all that paint dust to weigh it and see how much weight it'll drop from the frame ;)

Re: Look what the cat dragged in................... a ‘96 Y-TREK

What are you using to remove the top layers of paint ?

I guess many of the regular ones can’t be used on a none Metallic structure either too abrasive like blasting or corrosive like stripper

Gonna be a labour of love to do that all by hand with sandpaper - surly no an option :shock:

I’m a model maker by trade.... rubbing down is what we do.

That test was with 400 just to see what was there, I’ll be going through the grades starting 180, then 240, down to the last black & white filler layers. Then 400, 600, 800 which should be fine enough for a clear coat which will then get cut with 1200, then a final clear coat, cut if needed with 2000 then polished. :cool:
