Today's Ride

Autumn is on it's way but "summer" (wherever it was this year) is trying to do something. The temperature range this morning was noticeable; from chilly single digits to the mid teens in the sun. Mist and fog one minute, glorious sunshine the next.

New job and a week of travelling meant getting the miles in on two feet instead of two wheels but I rectified that this morning back at home.

Yesterday's ride was the last commute for a week or so, which is great news.

This is what we have to commemorate it.

And then today, I did this...

22 local miles.
Elevation change (total) 833 ft - (finally, Pat territory).
Top speed 37.7mph
And only one minor off...

Lots of beautiful rolling countryside. The big feature being the villages of Hooton Pagnell, Hickleton and Barnburgh.

At the summit of Brodsworth Community Woodland. Oh, the irony of it. A bit of landscaping and it's suddenly a local beauty spot.

Let's not pull any punches here: this is on top of an enormous slag heap, formerly part of Brodsworth Colliery, once the most productive coal mine in Britain.

A bit of local history .


St Wilfred's Church, Hickleton. One of four churches in a couple of miles radius, all of which have origins 1000 years old or more.

Lovely morning. Light breeze. 16°c or so. Sunny. Perfect conditions.

Pleasant 15 miler to work. Longest ride since new ankle 6 months ago. Not a twinge.

Just a couple of miles today. Down to the lock and back on the uncomfortable one.

The 'uncomfortable one'? How so?

Feels really stretched out, like I'm laid on top of it . Weight on my wrists. It's as if I have no idea how to sit on it. You know...uncomfortable.

The 550 is essentially the same frame and is very comfortable. I don't get it. I think it's a great looking bike and I really like it. You would think having two other very similar frames I would know how to set it up and make it work for me....

I've moved the seat forward about 30mm since posting. We'll start there.

Yep, I know that feeling: too stretched, too low. Not comfy. Isn't the 550 a suspension-corrected frame whereas the other one isn't, though?
