Today's Ride

Re:

I wish we had terrain like that over here Pat !

Here's my ride , on a short fast one from this very morning .

Having worked out a nice route , had to decide which bike to take ! Kept changing my mind  Do we all do this ? Ended up rolling out on my '99 Gary Fisher Kaitai . Along a short road section , before what seemed like a 10 minute climb ,

Flattened out soon enough so I could start going up the gears to the top . Rewarded with a lovely view of . . . very little due to mist

Or is it fog ?
Anyway , had a nice gradual ,long downhill slope on some loose chalk/flint before going up briefly for a little sprint .
Dropped down to a road , along a couple of road climbs  in order to get to the climb back up to the top of the Downs , past the pig farm .

Good for clearing out the lungs !
Past what must be the last of the poppies for this year ,

and onto my favourite bit of singletrack , uphill , just to make it harder ,

these pics are of the rootier wider sections but it does get narrower and rooty . Just didn't want a rider coming the other way to crash into the bike on those sections .
Held a gate open for some other riders , most on modern bikes , but one on a Parkpre Comp . Nice .
Then a long a ridgetop , then down a loose gullied drop
to the main road . Up the other side , then a wind assisted blast along the last bridleway home .
All in all , a good couple of hours ride

Mike

A very nice day for a Sunday tootle today. Can't recall ever seeing this much flowers in September before. The whole field smelled unbelievably sweet. Made me think of the Zion Canyon in May many years ago.

Nice ride Mike.

I bet that rooty section is fun in the wet.

It is better uphill in the wet Neil , less chance of hurting yourself . The second picture of the singletrack is actually a corner , carries on behind the tree in the background , to the right . taken with very little speed built up , I've rarely cleared this section!

Finally an overcast day after a summer full of eternal sunshine. Almost forgot how nice it is to ride under a blanket of low clouds. Lots of geese, but no hedgehogs despite the warning sign.

Speaking of steep hills, here's some pics from my second ride back in Bergen, Norway. Up, down and around Mt Floeyen. Turned out to be way more exciting than my first ride in Bergen.
