Today's Ride

kXhP3wf.jpeg

Concrete boat (https://fabulousnorth.com/cretehawser-wreck/) on the Sunderland leg of the C2C route. Pretty brutal today, 132.84km/82.54 miles with 1065m/3494ft of elevation. Was kinda hoping to hit the 100 mile mark and felt pretty good up until about 75 (previous max was around 71) when I started running out of steam majorly but oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained. Didn't really keep up with eating as much as I should have, headwind for a good half of it didn't help either, managed some good stretches on roads I'd normally avoid which more than made up for it. Think I need to do either some cleat adjustment or try a slightly smaller pair as started getting pain around halfway through, and was limping by the time I got home 😅
Good effort, will have to pull my finger out and do a long ride soon. And not waste time doing selfies on the bike !

Sometimes things just don't go to plan. A couple of miles into the planned ride along the first part of the South Downs Way the left pedal started feeling a little strange. It then seized up and started to unscrew itself. Hmmmm not good. I stopped before any damage was done and scooted the bike home.

🌪️ W I N D Y 💨

Nice & sunny for today's lunchtime ride, but the wind was ridiculous - I think if I stopped peddling I would have gone backwards

Unrelated: anyone seen a post on RB where someone was filling their paint chips with a different colour? Thinking about doing similar to the Ribble but I can't find the thread anywhere

After an eventful few days at work, I decided to get out for a ride this evening. Spring is definitely in the air and it's been the driest, sunniest period I can remember in my part of the UK for what seems like decades, so it must be enjoyed! 😄

It started to cloud over a bit as I rode.

If you look closely in this photo you can see a Fish Stabber.

Every time I see one, it reminds me of a story my Dad told me about how his grandfather shot a Heron with a slingshot during WWII and brought it home to cook. I smelt really bad and stunk the house out, was really greasy and tasted like rotten fish. Hardly surprising I guess. He also brought home a Swan for Christmas dinner one year... but that's another story.

Lazy deer.

A lot of history in this park, from ancient neolithic field boundaries to Eisenhower.... most people unaware this plague is here..

It was only when I got home that it was pointed out to me that I was unintentionally colour-co-ordinated with my bike... hehe, what a nob!

Driest March in england , since records began in 1910 , with only 43% of average rainfall. I think i read that right. Tbh we could do with a drier and less stormy year as some people must be so p!ssed off with dealing with flood and wind damage. We don't need nuclear hot and droughts, though. Just less of the extremes.

@PhillB How are you finding those Super Yummy tyres? Do they come up large compared to other 2.2 tyres?

Yep, it's been super-dry down here as well. Lovely stuff! That said we had the first rain in weeks yesterday evening.

Which meant this morning was a little damp but nothing to worry about. Stiff, solid E wind, 13mph with gusts of 23mph. Combination of mist and murk, with high broken cloud and clearer skies. Mildish 10 degrees, felt like 7.
