Today's Ride

Been off the bike for so long, since the beginning of the year.

Fitted a fresh tyre today and as it was not as hot and sunny as it has been i went out for a quick test ride, of me and the bike.

Just a short loop around the fields at the back of mine.

Excellent photography and cool looking bike. You got a build thread?
Hey mate,

Thank you for the kind words. I'm afraid I don't have a build thread for any of my bikes, but I reckon I'll make one soon enough. Not sure how to go about it though, hehe. Will let you know if I do.

So I built ahem cough nailed a bike together for this jolly...only 20 miles but it's a naughty one.....like not really allowed kinda naughty 😊

Its a blast over the marsh to the sea...dodging the firing ranges and circumnavigating a nuke power station!
Alarmingly I found what appeared to be a chuffing big mortar crater.....not in the ranges but frighteningly about 600 yards from the power station! Whoopsie! Bet some squaddie got a right rollicking!

Run out of road!

Had to leave my mark.

IMG_20220519_200442_285.jpg The end of the line....

Check those cables dropping to the ground! That means I'm almost at the destination now.....the magic bit.....

The concrete xylophone.....

Yup! You read that right ! A concrete xylophone!!

It's about 1/2 mile long 4 foot deep concrete lined trench with what can only be described as log thick cables in it 🤨.
The top is covered in small loose concrete slabs hundreds and hundreds of em!
Every single one makes a big hollow ping sound .....faster you go noisier it gets 😆 it can probably be heard for miles!

The concrete xylophone...

So one run up and one back with a few bunny hops for extra musical mirth....and then time to beat a hasty retreat...

Pillon the pressure and you can feel the buzz ✌️

Lovely pictures. Hopefully you didn't end up venturing unto the pebbly beach with the bike, that'd be one tedious journey. Record the xylophone slabs sometime! I love field recording stuff.

Pebbly beach riding is technical! Speed overcomes until it doesnt!
Maybe next time I'll record the sweet sounds of the concrete xylophone....when's there two or three riders it's crazy! Patrick Moore would've loved it!

What's worst pebbly or sandy? Danish beaches here are mostly sandy unless on the far Eastern coast. The other day I was on a single track path that I didn't know led to the beach, it was dark and suddenly it was deep sand in front of me and it nearly slung me off. Got a fair fright.

Do record the concrete xylophone. With enough cyclists you can form an avantgarde bike driving jazz quartet, rolling up and down the slabs while soulfully belting out the names of obsolete components from the past.

Another mad week but there was a window this morning and I took it. Grey, again, breeze, again, low cloud, again, barely 11 degrees, again. I was in Exeter yesterday and left at 17:00 with 21 degrees (and had a lovely lunchtime run) and watched the temperature steadily drop as I reached HQ in the evening  I wouldn't swap it - the sun is coming out now.

This is the longest it's taken for things to warm up down here in years I think. We've normally had a good few scorchers on the beach by this time, but not this year!
