Today's Ride

Re:

Old Mill? Where? :) Interesting to note that DH Racers use 26" wheels-probably because they turn in quicker...

Re:

Today-Thursday-After 3 years of drought, we have had the wettest December ever and it's still mid month! Hooray! We have a chain of lakes in our Water District, and all of them are full, save one-Kent Lake-We went out there today and checked it out-it's only down about 6 feet, a great sign...

Great pics indeed! Looks like all that water makes y'all excited :D ... which is understandable after 3 yrs of drought...

Sun in December makes me excited. Very unusual. So today sunny again but a lot of ice on the bike lanes made me go ride on the grass instead. CX style around and about the local rugby field where they also play american football occasionally in the summer...

Re:

wo weeks ago, I had a monumental accident, nearly losing my eye in the process, but as the stitches were now out, it was time to get back on that horse !!!

Taking my nurse maid, we met a friend who said that he would lead us on a route the Surrey Hills, we had ridden on a lot of the roads, but this was to be a mountain bike ride.

Heading off from Peaslake, we quickly started climbing. This was fine especially after all the riding we had done this year. It didn't take long before we arrived at Yoghurt Pots, which we took slowly for a sighter, came back around and hit it harder. There were a few scary moments where I lost the front and memories of my face skidding on the road, but I banished them aside and kept it upright !!!

A long climb beckoned, all the way up to Leith Hill. We've ridden most roads around there, but off road, it takes you up to a tower, and a cafe within, something I never knew was up there !!!

Tea-ed up, we then went down, following bits of single track, we arrived at the A25 which we crossed over and followed some more byways and farm lanes. Next we crossed White Down Lane, and after more byways, we arrived again at the A25 at Arbinger Hamer. Up we climbed, a nice long drag before we had one last section, Barry Knows Best. A little bit technical, but once down, we rolled back to the car and finished the ride.

It was great to be back out, it was only 31ish ks, but over 800 metres of climbing, a nice way to start the weekend !!!

Re:

I've been wanting to get the 29'er up onto the Mendips for a while and so today was the day as it is dry and mild... or at least it was until I was up top and then it was a bit chilly.

Anyway as soon as I got up onto Rowberrow I realised I was going to get a little grubby, as anywhere that is not a fire road is a mud bath. I dropped into one puddle only to watch my wheel disappear part way up to the hub, my cranks, pedal and foot followed it in, YUM!

Saw a few walkers, quite a few horse riders and a couple of other guys on mtb's, but overall it was just the way I like it... very quiet.

The long fire road up.

Still some way to go.

On the way down.

Today-Monday-Back up 1000' to the West again today-beautiful sunny California Winter day-72 F. short sleeves weather. A group of migrating ladybugs were hanging at the top where we were-they are on the way to nearby Muir Woods, where they spend the Winter...
