Today's Ride

Re:

Today-Wednesday-Out early, before it heats up-a pleasant 68 F. with blue skies this morning-going to get into the upper 80's F. this afternoon and hotter into the low 90's tomorrow through the weekend-looks like some time at the beach coming up! :) A fast ride down to the Bay and back, about 15 miles...

Today-Friday-Going to be hot into the low 90's this afternoon, so a combined bill paying pleasure ride to the Bay, then through the bike tunnel and back home. Nice out this morning, about 80 F. and sunny...

Today-Saturday- it is over 92 F.-so we went up Tam to beat the heat, with a cool breeze over the top. Spotted a guy on a parasail who got such a lift he hung out at our level for about 10 minutes. It was clear enough to see the Farallon islands 25 miles offshore...

Re:

Today's ride is a return of sorts to an old haunt: Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park.

I have mentioned before that I am a creature of habit and tend to do the same ride(s) but this weekend I could not because the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park was closed due to high fire danger. So my buddy John G. and I headed off to Bonelli. This place is surrounded by two busy LA freeways, a regional airport and the LA County Fairgrounds. Sounds like a great place to have a wilderness experience? But the riding is surprisingly good with sweeping single track a nice mix of technical downhill and one MFer of a climb.

Trail conditions were awful, due largely to the fact that it is October and we have had no rain since April. There was a good four inches of powdery silt in the apex of most turns and settled into rutted trails but it was fun nonetheless. Pic is me and the Wicked Fat Chance at the end of the ride and a really nice technical area.
