I bought the frame below for general run-about duties but would also take it for local blasts with either a trailer or kids seat attached. I have a few too many suspension forks kicking about so was thinking if I had one with a steerer tube long enough (how long is the steerer on this frame :? ) would it be worth chucking a set on?

My rationale is that I'd be pulling more weight so the comfort and buzz-killing properties of suspension at the front would be beneficial.

I'd be choosing between some RST XMO forks in blue, or some Judys (SL or XC - it would be plain silly to stick some FSX on there, though they woudl actually look darn good I think).

What do you people think - stick with the original rigid/quill stem set up, or go ahead and suspended?

Oh, and if anyone has an opinion on whether to run M739 STI, seperate M739 v-levers with either M740 shifters, or XT thumbies, do share. I have not run thumbies in years but have a desire to do so - will they work well on an 8 speed casssette (wheels will be M737).

Cheers all.

You'll have enough on your plate concentrating on looking after your Sprog, you may as well be comfortable while you're at it...

...fit the fork ;)

Keep it rigid. 1) It's an unusual colour and the fork is matching.

2) And a big one at that, you need to know what's going on behind, it's a tad mean to tow a rigid trailer over the rough whilst you're comfy with suspension!

Definately keep it rigid. I looks really nice and a suspension fork will only slacken the geometry and ruin the steering.

Duh! He's going to be towing, do you really think he'll notice the slightest difference in the steering a bouncy fork might make?

Think of the intended use of the bike rather than personal prejudices...

real men ride rigid ;)

Once the susser fad has passed. You wont have to buy new forks. So keep rigid

the whole slackened steering point is made moot by the fact that he'll only ever have ridden it with the fork that he fits during this build
