It is kinda broke though.
But I don't think the cut-off points are the reason. The post 98 section could be buzzing with downhill bikes and the like but it's just not.
The biggest problem is (ironically) out of date technology. Young people don't use forums. Loads of folk don't use computers. It's all mobile devices and aps and platforms that make it really easy for people to take a snapshot and post it, and react to things. Writing out a massive thread with detailed pictures of a resto is just something that too many people can't be arsed with nowadays. Look at how much activity there is in the facebook groups. Probably loads on instagram and snapchat and whatever else is 'current'. But that stuff is all much more fleeting and transient than this place. The conversations on facebook are comic, and the lack of genuine knowledge is frightening sometimes.
Retrobike is a great resource but it is becoming more of an archive of past glories now. If it is to be current again it would need a big change, but then we don't need another facebook, so I'm not sure it would be an improvement I'd want to see.
It would be better if John was still keen as mustard, and it would be better if photobucket hadn't committed harikari and decimated many great threads, but things change. An update to the forum to include photo hosting and more features would probably take a large investment of time, effort and money. And then folk would complain they didn't like the changes. I can understand why John would be reluctant!
So to summarise, I don't really know what the answer is. I'm not sure there is one but it does make me a little sad that this place is in decline.
