Raleigh have been doing this sort of thing for ever, hardly a new trick for them. This is clearly far superior to the gas pipe bikes they did in Ti livery BiTD. Could be better though...

At least the gas pipe frames had components of a similar quality so it was a balanced spec, the components on this bike warrant a 631/725 tubing set.

The problem nowadays is that modern "integrated" components don't tend to come cheap.

Looks to be a poor man's version of the route Falcon took with their Holdsworth Professional replica, which has a much better spec even though it ain't exactly cheap.

The wheel package looks pretty sound as a whole. It's everything else (exception no.2 - Athena brake calipers aren't bad either) that lets it down as a £2k bike.

From the Raleigh website, I can see what you mean! Chainset looks all wrong (Stronglight Impact would've fitted in better) and the coloured mudguards seem a bit naff.

But at least they were honest. Not exactly cheap, I grant you, but still affordable.

This is the price of a custom steel frame in better steel. I would feel ripped off if I'd paid the same price as a Mercian for some anonymous, far eastern made crap.

Gas pipes and that.

It makes use of the available stuff - which shows that the stuff available isn't any use for a bike like this.

They should have pushed Campag for re-issue hubs, and they must still have stocks of alloy TT bar-end levers which can convert to down tube shifters quite easily - they are almost identical to C-Record. Campag do standard brake levers to match.

Its a Frankenstein - they might find a market in the US.
