Declaration: Have worked in embedded controls in the automotive industry for 25 years, a significant part of which in powertrain controls (engine management system development), both as an oem and as tier 1 supplier.

A lot of hyperbole does not even come close. Don't believe all that you read in the press.

I see today in the U.S. that they have announced that as well as the emissions cheating software, that 2016 diesel models also have additional software in to aid the exhaust to pass regulations. Two lots of software and in the latest models is not going to help :facepalm:

The only surprise here is that nobody else has been caught fixing emissions yet.
If VAG have to fix the software to achieve the required levels then how could any other manufacturer achieve them without doing something similar. VAG don't build fundamentally poor engines by industry standards.
