Those ****** at VAG!

Re:

I reckon we ought to be thankful this has happened, could be a lot of cheap VWs knocking about soon!

So it's true what they say, every cloud (of diesel fumes) has a silver lining. :p

Re:

Is the consumer the one at fault? Nobody would dream of buying a new / nearly new car without it having the latest safety gadgets and comforts. ABS, power steering, air bags, half-decent crash rating, CD player, power this, power that, 5 seats, wide low profile tyres. All of these add weight to a vehicle. No wonder the vehicle manufacturers are having to fabricate fuel consumption / emmision data. They don't stand a chance. If they actually built a lightweight fuel efficient vehicle - nobody would want to buy it.

Guarenteed 70mpg, no creature comforts or safety features and certain death in the event of a crash.

I'm quietly laughing at all this as I've always hated diesels. I don't like how they drive, I hate the noise they make and I could never get my head round their eco credentials when you see some German repmobile belching acrid smoke under acceleration and with the rear bumper covered in soot. Good f***ing riddance I say!

But I do find it a tad ironic that the shitstorm started in the US where the best selling vehicle is the Ford F150, a behemoth of a vehicle that will struggle to achieve 20mpg in V6 form, let alone V8. It's also exempt from emissions testing due to the 'truck' loophole...

Re:

What is the purpose of recalling all these vehicles? Won't changing the maps to lower emmisions seriously effect the performance?

I preferred the vags of my day. You put the boot in them once and week and it cleared them out.

I reckon the fault here is in the consumer's eye.

Re:

I'd still buy a VW tomorrow. They are well built cars, incredibly safe and great long term value for money.

Then again I have never believed any car company on emissions or mpg figures, politicians on telling the truth and multi national companies just swapping the dollar sign for a pound sign with no adjustment for currency adjustments

Diesels are not clean engines and are unlikely to be cleaner that petrol. Be honest with what you know and make decisions around that and you should be fine.

I suppose the one benefit of the whole VAG scandal is that it's flushed a lot of idiots out.
Idiots who get paid to write, present and review stuff about cars. Industry pundits.

Cheating, blah blah blah, emissions, blah blah blah fuel consumption, Blah Blah.

It's fairly clear they don't understand the basics of testing, emissions or fuel economy. And they seem to be pretty unsure about the definition of cheating (Just to be clear VAG most definitely did, most of the others haven't) But they'll all get pats on the back and payrises thanks to the amount of clicks they get.

I'd get sacked if I was that badly informed on the subjects that pay the bills.

Re:

What surprises me is that somrbody thought it would be a good idea and then think noone would spot it.

By the way, what sort of emissions amounts were talking about?
