Thinking of getting an old bike

skyhawk

Dirt Disciple
I can NOT remember the biker I had when in school at 14, it was 1971, all I can remember was that it was obviously a mens, 3 speed Sturmey Archer.

I know I will never remember the bike but would like to get one similar.

Is getting a decent bike from the 70s viable

Thanks

And probably for far less money than you think. If your prepared for a bit of work. Quite good (certainly more than paper round money) bikes turn up at the tip on a weekly basis. £25 - 50 will do it.

Re:

I've just pulled my brothers old 70's bike out of mums garage. It's dirty and unloved but straight to once it's cleaned up will be perfectly usable. Plenty of bikes out there for peanuts that just need a bit of spit and polish. Any parts you need will be available via this forum. :D

Re:

Probably your simplest solution is to find out where old bikes are sold after an overhaul/service in your
local area . Their bikes are usually donated

So not bike shops as such , but organizations who give employment to disadvantaged people etc

There are about 3 or 4 in my area , with stock always changing , and prices are reasonable
bearing in mind that the bikes have been serviced etc

Otherwise try the Gumtree route and have a look around , your not going to have to
spend a great deal , and should have loads of fun !

Good luck

Thank you all

I am happy to have a hobby and this looks like the thing I will enjoy, but how would you experts "colour match" paint

(Oh, I am autistic, aspergers and coborbid adhd and over 60) :) :)
