The stiff upper lip

I know what you are saying Dyna.

But sherbet fountains kill less than alcohol too.

Now how many sherbet fountain users die of their habit, and how much of a social problem does sherbet use create relative to the number of users?

My hope would be for a less crime orientated view on 'drug' use, with an emphasis on tackling the social problems surrounding dependency at the same time as education, and controlled decriminalisation with the safeguard of criminal prosecution of proactive suppliers.

Interesting point :?
Heroin kills less that tobacco and alcohol, and does less damage to the economy.

Just a point, dont take it that im suggesting we all swop onto that ;)

i think you'd have to extrapolate the size of heroin addiction to that of alcohol addiction to compare the two. Having lived in a couple of heavily smacked up areas, it's no fun...they are so far removed from society that they won't think twice about popping a squat and shitting in the street like a dog.

That said i did know a few addicts who held down full time jobs and shot up on the weekend. Very pulp fiction esque only they worked in everything from office jobs to welders.

Got a mate, known him for years he's a welder and a bloody good one too but a smack head also!
Done the drinking thing for years, it's fun as a kid/teenager but you need to know when it's time to call it a day and lessen your intake.
I rarely drink now ...no more than a couple of pints a week on average, at 43 I know it's not worth loosing the precious weekend days to hangovers etc as I 'd rather be out on my bike.
Sadly with 'equality' it appears as well as getting good things going on the ladies have inherited the worst of the male culture too ie the weekend binge...I work in an office full of middleclass/middleaged women and unless they are lying then they drink an awful lot, half a bottle a night for most of them and more at the weekend, generally blokes tend by middleage to know when they've had enough but as designated taxi driver for the wife and her mates I often ie every time have to escort them from the car to waiting husbasnd because they can't stand up, often they have wet them selves, (had to have the car valeted twice that I know of because of same), they have between the six of them lost each other several times when they have become absolutely trashed... once I had to look for one lady and found her passed out at the top of some stairs leading down to the ladies with a couple of saddo sex pests about to maul or rob her I wasn't sure which....these are all what we'd class as well to do middle class ladies who work in the health related fields!

I don't consider us uptight at all.

The stiff upper lip is indeed to do with resolve, which is another matter entirely.

Lived and partied in quite a few countries, we are up there amongst the most sociable and relaxed people in the world.

How else did we spew forth such an enormous amount of amazing party music over the generations?

+1..very true..lived and work alongside many nations..and believe or not we are liked very much :D

I drink more than I should in social situations to exist in social situations as I know whether I like it or not, I do have to make an attempt at socialising. Other than that when I am on my own, I have no problems nailing a litre of wine just to turn the ever active mind off so I can chill. I used to use it to get to sleep, but these days it doesn't work, so am on melatonin as that works well and chills one out for the next day too.

was on a drugs course the other day with various people, council, head of police, youth workers etc........yup alcohol more of an issue than drugs. But certain drugs lead to certain types of crime, alchols leads to others. Health cost wise alcohol cost NHS a packet.

Yeah but how many heroin addicts are there compared to cigarette smokers? If they legalised it tomorrow it could go one of two ways...either we'd have people dying in the streets or more likely it would be like the clinics in switzerland and the people would know where they could get a clean fix with no need to get involved in criminality.
