The other "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" thread for 98

And these, please can anyone tell me what model these disc hubs are and a guess at value. Tried using the American Classic website but inconclusive. Have seen some hubs on eBay in the US but a wide variation in prices. Am I better off splitting the hubs/rims? Seems a shame as they are a nice wheelset with black spoke nipples and the large flange hubs.

Been riding these on my too small Trek until l bought a modern 29er. Really nice to ride, nice freehub noise!
They look in good condition but I think these would be about £150-170 inc tyres.

Posting for initial interest haven't a clue on price - advice needed.

Hi.

First post here from me, wish I'd found the forum sooner as it looks excellent.

I have recently had my cira 2003 Scott Expert Racing mountain bike (photo attached of it now, post refurb) mechanically refurbished with my local specialist and I am looking to put it up for sale but, and I always hate being this person, I genuinely have no idea what to advertise it for in terms of if it's a saught after classic or just another old bike.

I am its first and only owner, buying new from Hargreaves Cycles in Millbrook Road Southampton in I think 2003. The bike is running on a mixture of original parts or anything that has needed to be replaced in its 22 year life has been replaced with similar or OEM parts. It's had a riser bar and front hope disc brake fitted (v.brakes on the back as standard) but that's it for the upgrades.

Bike has just had a full service and mechanical refurbish including correct new chain, new cassette, pair of new OEM equivalent MTB tyres, new bottom bracket, new seat post clamp, new rear brake cable, two new inner tubes and two new jockey wheels. On top of that the bike was stripped and cleaned, fully lubricated, derailers adjusted, rapid fire shifters stripped serviced and v.brakes serviced. The bike is still on it's original Rock Shox Judy TT front suspension which rebounds and works fine.

The paint work on the bike is the beautiful anodized mid blue but it is chipped in a few localised places, but nothing terrible.

I will advertise the bike for sale here but it would be really good to get some people's experience on what they think would be the correct price to advertise it for. Having searched forums, ebay, Gumtree and anything else I can think of there wasn't another one of these for sale so very hard to judge price.

It would be good if it could go to a suitably caring home. The bike hasn't been ridden in anger for around 13 years and has been dry stored and covered in my garage. Suspension works as it should and after the refurbishment the bike has been test ridden and is now good to use.

Many thanks.

That would be a shame as i've just spent £238 on the mechanical and parts refurb. If i can cover that cost it would be something. Thanks for replying.

Sadly repairs and even service can now cost more than a bikes worth....tis a pitty. But with an elite for £120 or offers.....

Unfortunately, it's a 20+ year old reasonably good, but not exceptional, bike. Most bikes of that age have not yet reached classic status (On-One might be one of the few exceptions). People will only pay more than about £50-100 for something more modern (geometry changed enormously after about 2015) or somehow exceptional if old - appeal, condition, brand, rarity, components etc (pick as many as possible). Scotts were never a top tier brand in terms of mass appeal in the UK. You may get a little more advising it locally, and stressing the hope kit and recent refurb meaning it is safe and ready to ride. Even then, for the price you paid for the refurb you are nudging into new Carrera subway territory.

I have a number of bikes which would provide any number of people good service, but they are essentially worthless in today's market when everyone is looking to make a little cash by moving stuff on that is surplus to requirements due to cost of living etc.
