DENON POA 6600 monos and DAP 5500 pre
got my new toys at the weekend, again!
owned these a couple of years back, sold them to a good friend down in cornwall, and have just bought them back
on arrival, the mono blocks were in perfect condition. the pre was operating, but with no power light or any of the digital side working. apparently all was good before the journey up, so some investigation was required.....
stripped it down, and no power to the led at the power switch.....hmmmm
whilst re-connecting the wire, i noticed that the board seemed a little 'flexible', bending downwards. on closer inspection i noticed a crack running across the length of the board that had obviously been repaired/glued at an earlier date by a previous owner/seller!
i decided to remove the board and see what the underside was like.....
gutted!
so, with nothing to lose, i decided to have a go at a repair, bearing in mind my soldering skills are non-existent!
i re-epoxied the board back together, and decided that little jumper wires might work.....
anyway, you can see in the pic my effort, and surprisingly/satisfyingly the end result is a fully operational preamp!
a couple of bits of a cut-down silicon handlebar grip to prevent the board from bending again was the finishing touch!
