Modded cdp is absolutely stonking but the transport bit has always been a bit 'draggy' Had a look inside tonight whilst a disc was spinning. When viewed from the top it looks like the circular magnetic holder is spinning slightly elliptically (disc obviously spins correctly) and I think it is catching on the frame that it spins in. Was thinking a small touch of lube but not sure that it might be distributed around the player via centrifugal force

tiny amount should be fine.

The transport of the Marantz 40, 50, 60 series (CDM12?) can be a pain in the arse. Your's looks like a new (non-original) one - is that what the chap did to get it going? The CD clamp *should* self centre, but often doesn't! I have heard people modding it with a coin glued into the centre so it presses down on the spindle better (thus centering better)

I'm guessing the clamp is original as only the laser mechanism was changed. Off to find the heaviest coin I can, may have to raid the kids money boxes

has digital out so best of both worlds, nicer spun alu feet too!
runs into a sweet sounding old MF Digilog, love that TDA1541 dac sound!
shame i didn't know this hifi thread existed, threw an old 1200 out a few months back, could have karma'd it here for spares
