Mad 1980's car hifi

Got me a Kenwood KRC 949D - if it works, I'll have me a couple of powdercoats worth

Re:

Advice required!

Modded cdp is absolutely stonking but the transport bit has always been a bit 'draggy' Had a look inside tonight whilst a disc was spinning. When viewed from the top it looks like the circular magnetic holder is spinning slightly elliptically (disc obviously spins correctly) and I think it is catching on the frame that it spins in. Was thinking a small touch of lube but not sure that it might be distributed around the player via centrifugal force :D

Re:

The transport of the Marantz 40, 50, 60 series (CDM12?) can be a pain in the arse. Your's looks like a new (non-original) one - is that what the chap did to get it going? The CD clamp *should* self centre, but often doesn't! I have heard people modding it with a coin glued into the centre so it presses down on the spindle better (thus centering better)

Just picked one of these up(well, not quite the same, mine's got rotary pitch control and a fader) . "It's dead" is the fault. Sure enough, doesn't power up so I'm hoping it's something very simple like an internal fuse. Will get it apart tonight and have a look. Tell you something though, it's built like a bloody battleship!

guess what I've got...

Doesnt read CD's yet though.

ooooh I love these!
had three 1200s, a 1200b and still use a 1300 as my transport, fab bits of kit! :D

I'm guessing the clamp is original as only the laser mechanism was changed. Off to find the heaviest coin I can, may have to raid the kids money boxes :D

Thanks chaps.

P.s

What do you think about altering / swopping the clock?

when they work that is.

mine is on the naughty step.

Mine too. Baby steps as far as fixing it! Watching a main board from another Technics which has the same CPU on it. Worth a punt to rule it out!

Re:

runs into a sweet sounding old MF Digilog, love that TDA1541 dac sound!
shame i didn't know this hifi thread existed, threw an old 1200 out a few months back, could have karma'd it here for spares :(
