I think the tyres Baker was using back in the day were Specialised hardpacks 1.5.It also looks like he's using Campag rims in the photo too, maybe Stheno's? or something like that.I do remember seeing his bike in cyling weekly. It had bar tape instead of grips for light weight!
Thanx Max

Correct he used a 1.5 hardpack on the front and was a late convert to suspension forks, did not slow the bugger downhill though. I had a lot of respect for Dave as a rider.

Had a dig around last night and found a few bits and bobs. I have found the full spec for David Bakers 1992 race bike which might help.

Spec
Frame and Fork- Raleigh Team Issue MMC

Bars- Raleigh prototype MMC (98g)
Stem- Syncros Cattleprod 140mm
Grips- Bar tape or ODI Tomac Attack
Bar ends- Onza Titanium

Wheels- Bontrager BCR-1, DT swiss DB spokes, White Ind front, M900 XTR Rear
Tyres- front, Specialized Hardpack 1.5. Rear, Panaracer Smoke Lite Comp
Ringle Ti Stix Skewers.

Seatpost- USE Titanium
saddle- Bontrager Ti rails

Brakes- Front M900 XTR canti and Sti
Rear, Dia Compe Lever, Weinmann Cyclocross Cantilever

Drivetrain-
Cook Bros racing Cranks, Campagnolo outer ring, Onza middle and inner 50/36/26
Cassette- 12-28, mixture of Dura Ace and XT
Chain- Dura Ace
Bottom Bracket- Syncros titanium
Pedals- Shimano SPD
Front and rear mechs- XTR M900
Shifters- Front, Deore XT M732
Rear, XTR M900

Bit of a mish mash.
Thumbie was used because he said he suffered from hand fatigue on longer races and he could use his whole hand to shift instead of thumbs.

Cassette was a lash up because the XTR's kept coming loose.

Rear brake set up was because the XTR was too powerfull and just locked all the time. the cyclocross set up was just enough to slow without slowing too much

Heres some pics. sorry for quality, I have no scanner at work so I used a camera phone. Flickr has decided to put them the wrong way round and won't let me rotate so I'll leave that to someone cleverer than me

Found pics of Paul Hintons Team bike from late 1992. It has full XTR M900 but with Manitou ! forks and Tioga Disc drive.

If you PM your address I'll stick these mags in the post for you later in the week.

Cheers
Si

Thats used to be on my bedroom wall!

Sadly, I didnt keep it when I moved out :(

Paul Hinton was, IMO, the 'cooler' Raleigh rider with all the flash kit

Easier on the neck......

Cassette was a lash up because the XTR's kept coming loose.

I can vouch for this, the top spider used nut/bolt (like the chainring but smaller, they fixed this problem later by just using fixed 'rivots') .. I have 2 spiders and lots of rings lying in a box now (still) ;)

DuraAce chain = XTR chain btw.

Just a quick one, the Raleigh DynaTech team with Timmis in was 1993. No other year.

'92 it would have been Raleigh Saab and in '94 it would be just Raleigh.

So you'd need to look for '93 video's

It was Raleigh-Copthorne Hotels-Saab I believe. The team stayed in the hotels when travelling to events etc.

Think you're going to bw sorted then :)

Now anyone know who rode for the '91 Rocky Mountain team in the UK and preferably anyone famous ;) (I assume '91 team) as that is where my frame originally came from (says the person iirc, who ran EuroCycles near Snaith/Google who I got it from bitd. Nice chap he was).
lol.

I remember buying stuff from him as well, a young guy who ran the business from home and his Dad's garage. Generally quite competitively priced.

Regarding Rocky Mountain, I'll PM you about the guy you need to speak to who was the UK agent for a short while.

Thanks :)
Very competitive for a person like me who lived near Hull (I actually do again ) and all we had  some local bike shops (2 very nice and friendly ones mind you, Ken Ellekers, Cliff Pratt cycles) and then there was the bling but not so cheap Freetown Sports, before they moved to their current shop), and the days before t'internet and wiggle style shopping.
Eurocycles was dirt cheap in comparison, bought most my parts from him.
Yes from his garage, and his parents went to Germany etc bringing the stuff back, lol. Hard job ;), he moved a few years later down the road (I used to dingy sail near there as well)

Anyways, back on topic..
.. er nothing to add ;)

Sorry to tell you this after the event but there were a load of Raleigh-Copthorne-Saab jerseys for sale yesterday at the Thurcroft Jumble.

I saw them and thought of you - but didn't know your size!
