Taking a Haircut on a Vintage Bike

I recently had to sell off one of my vintage Italian bikes, which went to a buyer in Sweden.
I put about 800 quid into it, and then another hundred on refinishing the chrome on the forks.

All in, in this very depressing market, I 'lost' about 300. Previously I could readily break even on a build, and this was sufficient for me.

I know there are forum members selling up and moving on all the time, but what's the biggest haircut you've taken on a bike restoration?

With regards the current market , I dread to think of selling a whole bike .
Like any hobby the parts often fetch more than the whole.

The last classic I sold was a Saxon twin tube and I broke even ,so happy with that
A few years ago the market went mad and a lot of folk over paid ,I know I did on a couple of frames . One turned out a fake and the other I spent to much on re chroming and paint work . I reckon I would do well to get half my money back.
