Sun Snipe Plus, c1965

Ohh! nice, yep, the colour is a nice Flamboyant finish. A silver-pearl base coat with a transparent coloured lacquer. The base coat shows up a bit around the shorelines of the lugs and the fork crown. was it just in someone's garage or in a back bedroom?

Ive asked the previous owner for a bit of provenance. The bike isn't mint but the condition of the paintwork is just out of this world. This is just how I like them. It rides smoothly for a 50 year old machine. I may well put a pair of white-walled tyres on this machine, I think it will suit it immensely.

Wherever its been stored, it was dry, dark and clean.

Re:

I had this back from the previous owner in Bristol:

This bike belonged to a relative who was a very keen cyclist, and used it for touring in the 60's. It was made in Worksop, and the frame looks very similar in style, and special lugwork, to the famous Carlton frame.

It is in great condition, and almost totally original. It has been stored in a warm/dry loft for probably the best part of 40 years.

I have had it fully stripped down, fully serviced and rebuilt with new cables, handlebar tape. I had a different saddle fitted, but other than that, it is still in it's pre-loved condition as it was back then when it was stored.

The components fitted are as follows:

Atom hubs (Made in France)
DUNLOP 'Special Lightweight' 27 x 1 1/4" rims
Huret 'Allvit' deraileur
Williams cranks
Original SUN brake lever rubber covers.
EUUT 'Quality Tubing', which I understand to be of a similar quality, if not better than, 531 tubing.
Weinmann 'Vainqueur 999' centre pull brakes
Original Weinmann orange brake blocks.
Original Sun (S) seat clamp bolt
Veloce mudgaurds.

The original decals on the down tube, show tours the Sun team competed in. From top to bottom 'Tour de France', 'Tour of Britain', Tour of Mexico', 'Berlin-Warsaw-Prague' and 'Tour of Six Provinces'.

Nearly finished this build now. I just have to replace the steam with a more appropriate Gb version. Fitted new tyres today as well as adding toe clips. A copper finish Crane bell added thats finishing touch. A few images of the bike as well as a few details.

I have had this old Wrights saddle for nearly 40 years. It was originally on my very first Carlton - my 1973 Continental.

Re: Tyres

I'd leave the tyres on. They are a quality tyre with loads of grip. White Walls are fine if you only intend to show it but on a day to day basis it looks the part with what you've got to me.

The new tyres are in the images.

Wow, she look awesome! So glad you bought her in the end, if I lived closer it would have been a battle ha ha ha...

Can't believe the paint job! And finally I've found a perfect example to base my restoration on:) Do you possibly have any more pics of the little decal right below the seat and some 360 shots of the seat tube decal design?
