Sticking xo shifters?

A few times on my last two rides, the xo rear shifter gets stuck/doesn't shift properly when going down the cassette/gears. A quick up shift and all seems fine again. Anyone had this issue and solved it?

I suspect it's sticky grease - a quick blast of WD40 into its innards should help.

It is also worth checking if the cable is sticking somewhere.

I'll have a play tomorrow and report back. Why did they change the bottom screw from Allen to a square??

Just blast the oil up the cable hole, don't bother dismantling!

You can also access by removing the cable insertion plug.

Cable insertion plug? Mine are 10 speed, not even sure I recall one of these on the 9 speed versions I have either? Top cover comes off so flushed through now, let's see how they go next time out, though they have never done it on the stand.

It's all new cabling, my newest build so hopefully it's not the cables (xtr, the only shimano on the bike).

Sram cables are 1.1mm diameter compared to 1.2mm for Shimano. I always use Sram 1.1mm's in XO or XX.

ive never had an sram shifter appart before, but just cos nobody else suggested it, if it was shimano i would diagnose a sticky pawl every time.

i think you would proabably have to get lucky with teh wd40 just spraying it in the shell. the pawl will likely be buried away under the main mechanism. basically the pin that the pawl pivots on is nessesarity quite a tight fit so if the grease gums up or is displaced, theres too much friction for the pawl spring, and the pawl gets stuck on the ratchet so you lose downshift, or upshift on a rapid rise mech (i think that right way round anyway.)

xo might be totally different, but probably worth taking the shell off, should be able to get to it without taking the mechanism apart.

having said that the wrong bore of cables would be a more obvious problem

Well you live and learn. Didn't realise xo required narrower cables. I'm not 100% convinced this is the issue, as whilst I was cleaning and fettling, I moved the shifters further inwards and noticed after doing this, the paddle would occasionally catch the brake mount. I've adjusted accordingly and also flushed a bit so I'll see how it goes on the next ride. Still couldn't replicate the issue on the bike stand though.
