Steel Forks

Re: Forks

hio shed that fork on that gitane will be brazed mate.
is it bent at the point where it enter s the crown ?making it skewif

Re:

yes and the threads are split and naffed,i work as an engineer so could get em sorted and just wondered how the steerers were fitted in to see if i can fit another one

i would talk to a frame builder see if it is easy for him to heat and remove and replace.
i would talk to him about the possibility of myself cutting and carefully grinding the old stub of the
stearer out and checking with the off cut. see if this is going to save some cash.
the question is if using heat to remove the stearer can it be localised enough not to affect where the
fork legs enter the crown and have them loosen :D
how they get allignment of forks spot on i would find fascinating, they must use a jig ?

Normally brazed, frequently drilled and pinned first to hold in place. The pin is not easy to remove and needs an experience frame repairer to repair.
