Lightest Steel Frame?

Just going to mention my new project: 1953 Holdsworth Whirlwind

23", frame 1940g, forks 775g but missing everything including a lot of the paint
Pretty good for 1953, and the lightest of my frames.

Couldn't believe how light my Ribble frame was at 1750g in Reynolds 531c, fully built up weighing in at 8.5kg

Yeah I had a Ribble 653 back in the day when I was racing and it did seem really light, shame I got rid of it.

This is my Marotias, Spanish artisan builder who produced frames for Delgado, Luis Ocana, time trial frames for Indurain and notably Eddy Merckx. When the entire Molteni team were riding Kessels Colnagos, Merckx rode a Marotias. Always sceptical of Colnago frames he would often ride artisan builds painted up as 'Colnago'. He was/is famous for the fine point wrapover stays and minimalist braze ons/lines. Always simple paint finishes.

This is a 753 from Jose, the son, who is still producing top end frames in the east of Spain. 1660gr, but once all the bits are off it (seat pin bolt, rear adjusters, cable guide) under 1600. Lightest frame I've ever owned

I love those Whirlwinds, if I can find one in my size definitely a winter project!

This one was advertised as flamboyant magenta, turns out it's actually cromovelato magenta.
I just love the colour, but a bit tricky to repaint.

Go try one if you aren't sure.
Lightweight steel gets inefficient.

I wish this wasn't true.

This Raleigh 753 with Assos rims and the ludicrous light CLB brakes with Walter components is weighing in at 7.6kg! No sign of any carbon whatsoever

That’s an interesting bike. Do you have any pics of the drive-side? I collect Walter derailleurs but it’s very rare to see them fitted.
