The Butler in my sig below cost me £970 from Berkshire Cycles in Crowthorne in 1993 it was reduced as it was a 1992 model and I think we got a further £100 off as we got another bike for my mum at the same time.
I saved for just over two years to buy my first mtb. 4 paper rounds, a saturday job, mowing lawns and valeting cars in the summer and washing heavy plant machines for a tenner a day in the depths of winter.
After a bit of help from my dad, I headed to Doncaster on the 26th November 1986 and handed over £695 for my Cannondale SM600 plus £6.99 for some leather palmed mitts and £1.50 for a Cinelli water bottle. Still have the reciept somewhere.
EDIT: Just done the inflation calculator thing and it came out at £1,589.85. A small fortune to a 15 year old from Yorkshire
my 1990 clockwork also cost £640 From Myclycles in Malvern, my 1991 Pace RC200 cost me £1500 ish from Neil Walton Cycles ( an astronomical amount back then !)
