Skeeter 1 's 1993 Kona Cindercone build thread.

Just caught up on this thread... finding NOS stock of something old that you want is a bit of a dopamine hit :) Your attention to detail on this build is awesome, really looking forward to seeing it come alive !

If there was a love button for your comment I would have hit it!! Thank you so much for your kind words...I really do appreciate the support. 👍🏻

Sorry to anyone interested in my build and lack of updates, there has been so much going on in my family at the moment and taking care of parents had become a priority in-between work and my own everyday family life....
I have just taken this photo to show the small progress made.
I now have fitted USE Titanium seatpost( fantastic condition),Vetta titanium saddle(nos),Rock shox Mag 21s (NOS), Mk 1 black hope skewers (lovely condition), Syncros front hub (NOS), Xt rear hub (NOS), Mavic 231's front (with snowflakes spokes) and rear (standard) Onza black wall "Rip & Rail" tyres, Xt Bottom bracket,And Period correct Impact headset with lovely clean up and new bearings.
Slow steps...but heading in the direction I had in my mind.
I hope you enjoy........ PXL_20230625_070501374.jpg

This time 30 years ago I was still drooling over the new "93" Kona catalogue which at the time I picked up from my local bike shop. Those days you had no access to online images,it was just the catalogue to look at!

At that time I was cruzing around on my "1990" MuddyFox Pathfinder and was always at my Sunday club rides even though the bike weighed a ton,I still made it.

The summer of "92" I worked every day I possibly could getting paid about £15 a day! Christmas came and all I wanted from my family & friends was Money towards my dream bike....ooooh that colour scheme...silver to a stunning dark green fade. Every Sunday it was in the shop... The bike, the race kits, caps, T shirts

A few months later I had the MONEY, Thanks to the sale of my well oversized (You'll grow into it son) Pathfinder.

Exactly 30 years on I have found one in near pristine condition,I'm hoping to revive the decals or use correct match on the ones that are damaged.

Now it's time to build a very nostalgic bike, one that is true to me and what components I had on it up to the day it got stolen from beside my parents house back in "99"
I'll be adding some(not all) lovely NOS components I have bought already....all period correct 🙂View attachment 727038View attachment 727039

I'd do anything to relive the 90s again!!...it was such a great decade when I look back on things...we even had the solar eclipse 👌🏼

Where's this photo then?? Ha ha 🙈

Ok ok after much digging of old photos, this must of been 1992 I was 17 with my year old Lava Dome purchased from On yer bike in London Bridge, was working Sat job at Clarks shoes in Marble Arch, and used to stop off at On Yer Bike on Tooley Street after work, and drool over the amazing bikes, It was a toss up between a Marin Bear Valley, but Im so glad I went with the Kona, and still love an old school steel Kona.

I found these pics, oh the days when I had hair 😔🤣
