Here's my '96 Explosif. After buying it I stripped it of its (strange mixture) of components and rebuilt it with a mix of retro and modern. Having failed to remove the incorrect '99 decals I decided to go with the flow and took inspiration from the red and black colour scheme!

Some parts are clearly modern; Thomson stem, Easton carbon XC riser, Continental Mud King tyres, Hope headset etc. Some are period correct like the M739 drivetrain, Hope Ti hubs and Avid SD Mag brakes. Other parts, IMO, fall into both categories through being brand new still-in-production parts but adhering to classic retro designs such as the P2 forks (new production 420mm model), Mavic XM317 rims and TA chainrings.

A year later than the official retro cut off, but still in the era where Kona were producing really lovely hardtails with that classic appearance. My '98 Explosif, recently finished with a mix of period and modern bits:

This doesn't appear to be a Kona, have you posted by accident perhaps?
