I was wanting to put a 2.2 Conti X King on the rear of my Kona Explosif put the clearance looks like it will be quite close on the chainstays. Any chance you could give your mounted Conti a measure for me?

No problem, I'll do it tonight if I get a chance. From memory when I fitted it though, it wasn't all that close.

About 6mm either side on the stays. I'll be using something narrower if it gets ridden through the winter mud!

I think the stays on that Explosif are a bit wider than the ones on my 94 Kilauea, so you may be right about the later frames.

Newbie here.....Picked up on Monday 1998 Cinder Cone. It has been a Loooong time since I was on a Bike and now the kids are tearing around the country park on theirs I need something to keep up with them on !

Rather than go "modern" I decided on Retro cool instead I've got to put the gears back on, the guy I bought it off was running it sort of singlespeed (with a full 8 speed cassette), so Deore DX thumbies are heading its way ! Original STX front mech and LX rear mech were also there....so quite pleased really !

I would go for the p2 fork. would look to cool
