Funny, every time one of you types Big Dummy, I cant help but think they’re referring to Keith :)

If it's confessions time I have to admit it was only recently I discovered your username was in fact Clubby, not Chubby ;)

I'd always thought, there's honesty for you

Love the Arabesque parts Jamie, they just don't make stuff like that anymore (at least Shimano don't), part art, part component.

Yeah, the Arabesque stuff is really nice. Gutted it wont shift the 7 speed though. Just one of those things I thought I would get away with.
I have had them sitting waiting for a long time too, the shifters are barely used and the rear mech is NOS that I picked up really cheap, cheaper than the used ones I was looking at, but I wanted it for the rare longer cage which will shift up to a 30 tooth.
I would want this to be 7 speed like it was originally and I did just take all the 8 speed off so don't really want to go from 8 to 6 especially as I use this one quite often. maybe I will just have to find a nice 6 speed frame to hang it off ;)

Re:

Today in a bid to restore sanity as my mental health due to depression has gone a bit haywire I seriously culled my bike collection

I have six bikes now !!!!!!!!!!

One Bickerton Folder being seriously modded to make it less unsettling to ride.

One Dahon California Folder, Dahons original from the 80's, built like a tank but a hoot to ride.

One specialised Hardrock project from the early noughties.

One Saracen Rufftrack project from the 80's.

One Trek FX7.1 Hybrid, actually my girlfriends but she has given up on it.

One Apollo Frenzy runaround that does not tempt the Edinburgh Thieving Scum enough to nick.

Footnote: My depression has got out of hand, trying with my GP to find the antidepressant that will control it a bit better. Lost the plot at work a few weeks back and quit so now an unemployment statistic. Possibly may never return to full time employment as I need to care for my disabled girlfriend and look after two properties plus lots of other stresses. Not a rosy time for me. But I realised my bike hoarding was symptomatic of my depression so reduced dramatically, it feels strangely good. Also no longer a proper mountain biker, it no longer gives me pleasure, its too physically demanding so a bit of gravel riding is probably as off road as I will go in future.

Dont feel bad for me, it needed done, I'll probably meet up with you guys at some future point for a bit of light mixed terrain cycling if any develops.

Cheers Stephen AKA Velo

Hi Velo
As long as your seeing your health go in the right direction then that's what counts.
Hopefully we will meet up soon for a ride. We would have been doing the east Lothian rough stuff audax but it seems like it wasn't on this year, I think due to PBP which a fair few of the Audax Ecosse clan are at.
Anyway take care of yourself and your lady and hopefully see you soon.

Jamie

Re:

Very brave post Velo.
Like you’ve said, health is way more important than stuff.
Mountain biker, gravel rider, roadie, they’re all just labels. Me, I’m a rider. This year it’s been gravel and road, as I don’t have time to waste driving 2 hours each way for a ride. Don’t worry about what or where you’re riding, as long as you ride when you’re able. We all have bikes in the blood, it’s a disease you can’t get rid of.

I hope you get a treatment that suits, just don’t be a stranger.

Velo, sometimes life is shit, and it's not just you and no-one is immune.

Regardless of how you feel, you're always welcome on one of our rides.

Re:

If its helping your mood Velo then that's what must be done (6 bikes is still 5 too many if you listen to my non-cycling friends (I don't!) but a much more manageable number than previously.)
Getting out on the bike helps things, even for just a quick ride. I've been doing much more riding on my doorstep this year, and am still finding tracks and paths I've never ridden before.
Be good to see you out at another ride sometime, Strade-be-manky earlier this year was great fun :)

Re:

I do recall Clubby suggesting a second visit to his turf for another gravel run. He does have the advantage of being reasonably central for much of us travelling to a meet.
If your listening Clubby another gravel meet would be good ;)
