Sealskinz socks

I've got Northwave Celsius boots; they're toasty warm and keep you dry assuming the water doesn't get over the top. They are just like a pair of decent walking boots with cleats.

I do agree that you need a larger size though.

After more time than I care to remember riding in extended torrential rain & deep surface water theres no way to stay 100% dry. If you wear full waterproofs head to toe you get as wet through sweat. If you wear standard bike kit, with either overshoes, waterproof socks, or goretex shoes or similiar, the water simply runs down your legs & fills up in your shoes/socks.
I've learnt to accept I'm going to get wet; its more important to stay warm.

Scant has nailed it there, with proper waterproofs you'll get soaked with sweat via any moderate exercise and then quickly get cold. Breathable and windproof is better than waterproof everytime.

Also, remember what Ranulph Fiennes said about one of his epic walks, best to start lightly chilled and then let the exertion walm you up. But then he did cut his frostbite off in his shed using some powertools so maybe not best to follow his advice to the letter.

I'd finally add that if you have waterproof socks or shoes once water gets in the top it has nowhere to go, wheras if shoes are not waterproof at least it can drain out again. I might draw the line at wearing SPD sandals though.

I've had mine for 9 years and commuted every day for a good 2 years of that. Whilst they are not perfect as on really wet rides the water comes down your legs into the socks, they do keep my feet much warmer than normal socks. I think they are worth the money, but don't expect 100% dry feet if riding in heavy rain or bombing through puddles and streams.

They were much better with the tops covered with waterproof trousers, but I got so hot I prefer slightly wet feet! ;)

Amen.

...although, you can get someone else to carry spare clothes for you and hold everyone up while you change repeatedly - that's always an option...  ;)

If they are wet inside it's a higher chance that its your sweat, after a ride i would take my shoes off and leave the socks on while washing the bike..bone dry. But i have overshoes as well and would recommend them over socks. Especially this time of year, with socks i still seem to get cold feet but with normal socks summer shoes and decent overshoes my feet are warm and dry and the shoes stay quite clean.

Overshoes all the way.. ;)

Skinz

Did a test with my pair today. Turned them inside out and then half filled with water. No obvious leakage. Drained water and turn the right way around. 2 hours later the insides were damp/wet on the pair. The water on mine are slowly leaking in rather than having an obvious failure. Still think they are going back. However,i will miss then untill crc can exchange.
