Same Old Politics Of Hate

I don't think the current economic position can be wholley attributable to Labour. Agreed the selling of Gold was hardly done at the best time, but there are a lot of global factors attributable to how the economy currently stands.

It's not wholly attributable, no. Brown abolished boom & bust, I would do well to remember that more often.

Quite the understatement. :)

That's true. My gripe is with the excess that Labour presided over in terms of benefits, the NHS, rampant house prices etc etc which have left us less equipped to meet the challenges that the larger crisis has provided us.

Touche. Did I specify anyone by name?

I try to avoid getting into endless internet debate around politics, as I don't have the time nor inclination to fully explore the endless considerations on here. That and I'm sure some of my views would be pretty abhorrent to the sheeple majority. Doesn't make them wrong though.

Politics is difficult. But I don't believe it has to be.

So go on, what do you think should happen? Don't worry about corrupting me; while I won't promise to agree with you, I do like to hear alternative views on a situation.

Simplify the tax system, much further than is planned. Raise the threshold and abolish tax credits altogether. I like the idea of a flat tax but am aware of it's challenges.
Privatise the NHS. Bloated, inefficient and no longer what it was intended as. Encourage an insurance based alternative.
Get out the EU and Human Rights Act. Our own Bill of Rights to replace.
Properly controlled immigration for our benefit.
Legalise, control and tax drug use. Income ringfenced to fund rehab schemes. Reduce Police budget accordingly.
Abolish the NMW.
Take back control of interest rates from the BoE. Failing to meet targets in any other situation would result in sanctions.
Modern workhouses for the feckless? An introduction to work, added employability, sense of responsibility? And a product to sell as well? Maybe not.

Obviously these are far from costed and thought out proposals, but off the top of my head they are some changes which I would probably welcome. Unfortunately general opinion is such that if an MP even mentioned some of them he'd be castigated, as the Tory was last week about the minimum wage.

But most of all I'd like to see a move away from the mentality that spending is good, and lack of 'investment' is bad. I went to one of the top state schools in Scotland, for exam results and university places achieved. It was falling apart, holes in windows, books one between two or three etc etc. It's now been rebuilt at massive cost with every gizmo under the sun and results are worse.

Achievement is about attitude and ambition, and throwing endless amounts of money at schools, unis, councils or whatever won't change that.

I see. That should solve everything then. Jolly good.
It would solve some things imo. There isn't a government in history which has solved everything for everybody, yet you expect a random internet cyclist to achieve it?

Clearly you disagree. I'll leave you to dream of your socialist utopia. Though when you're as patronising as that I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to reply.

It's not hard to see why the off topic forum has slowed down.

It's going to slowdown just a little bit more from now on.
