Riding Rigid

My singlespeed is rigid and will always remain that way - if I'm in the mood it is the best tool for the job, but there are many trails I ride where I would not even consider it.

One day I may ride rigid, the next I may ride a 7" travel monster rig... often in the same forest.

I've shown this picture before but...

Top trail for the big bike, and the trail below for the rigid bike... although even the lower is very tricky around the tree and I have ended up sliding down the bank on my arse trying to prevent a chainring from impailing my face... in the dark!

Do you ride this drop... or jump it over the single track below??

I rode "Cliff Richard" on my Balfa Minuteman hardtail for the first time this morning. 7.30 am, no body armour and no other riders

Nice drop :D It doesn't look that big on film but I've done similar stuff (when I had my Kona Stab) and it looks one hell of a lot bigger when you're riding it. Top job matey :D

Nice Going messiah, that's the spirit.

As for fat tires, I'm a convert, and have been for nearly a decade. I run a selection of 2.4ish tires in all conditions but the worst mud, where I would go narrow. The latest crop of large volume nobbies is quite marvelous, all are nice and light and it's a choice of bias to more grip or faster rolling.

Enjoy!!

Did one of the downhill runs at Wharncliffe Woods on a rigid Klein Rascal the other week.
Couldn't keep my feet on the pedals because it was so bumpy and fell off twice.
Would probably have been quicker to leave the bike at home and walk down the course!

I've got new pedals now, so I'll give it another go sometime, and also the Downhill by Hagg Farm, Ladybower.

Retro is rigid, singlespeed is rigid, modern are hardtails. Still not worked up to full suspension.

Ive been riding rigid for 7 years now, i sold my old atx1 and my 990 3 years ago, as was not usung them , plus was costing for service etc, i like to do all my own work, but suspension is a bit complicated for me, i generaly prefere steel over ali, as ali can be abit harsh, and steel has a ncie natural flex, the tang prestige concept tubing on my kilauea is great, my m800 beast is abit harder but climbs better, but for me its the kona for alround use, rigid all the way, ;)

oh seat post for my arse ;)
