I think criticism is fair - positive or negative.

Amey is right - if you add a bike here thinking you'll just getting a pat on the back is a bit niave.

Shame really I know but there are some amazingly bad bikes on here (bad - I mean badly built, poor component choice, mutton dressed as lamb, polished turds, lipstick on pigs etc you get the idea) and many of us are too polite to speak out because we are generally a nice bunch here.

As long as the criticism is constructive I dont think that's a problem though so strongly recommend people think before they post...

i think critiques need to take the form of "why not try this instead of part that, i reckon it'd look better" rather than "oh f*** me that's vile (i've thought this a few times, but kept my gob shut - i'm sure some people think the same about mine)

the worst crime of style for me is too much anodising.

I think cce has it spot on there. Comment and discussion, yes, but tearing apart someone for not having the right component choice can run the risk of simply becoming bike snobbery.

I think this site is great because it's non-judgemental. You start placing a value on certain brands or aesthetic choices and you run the risk of creating a culture of elitism.

Does it matter if a bike is a mis-mash of parts if it is an expression of someones passion for cycling?

I just love riding an old bike and I love tinkering with it. I put it up on the site becuse it might be of interest to someone...like..."I had one of those!!", not for a pat on the back!

A+ :D

i hear internet bicycle one upmanship is going to be included in the 2016 olympics

and it wont be many years before a bike of the month multi winner will be stripped of the title on photoshopping charges  but will give interviews on blogs stating they needed to keep ahead and it wasnt their fault that the stylist added the touch ups deeming it just part of being at the top

Think that comment is invited by the act of publishing a pic on a public forum

Do think it should be constructive although even when its older that Jones fork will still look like a shopping trolley :D

Prediction for next year:

(Mystic Jez)

There will be a huge demand for:

Black amber walled tyres (Smokes, Xmax's etc)
Old style M737 (?) Deore XT (NOS or close to it)
Original factory restoration builds - i.e no bling. More black and silver.
Team replica bikes - THIS WILL BE THE BIG THING FOR SURE!

Sounds good to me, black and silver always a winner in my book

As Jez suggests reckon the next big thing for next year will be near enough stock mid to high end bikes. These are austere times - ringle and pauls out full xt or dx in. Let's keep the builds super clean though chaps

I'm hoping we'll see the standard rise accross the board - as it has done since 2005. Part of this can be achieved through a little more constructive criticism in reader bikes. it's excellent we encourage but that shouldn't be mindless praise.

.

All my current projects slated to be complete in 09 will be bling-less race machines.
