Retro friendly bike shops

Senior Retro Guru
With a recent 'reshuffle' of my retro stock and 2x new builds on the horizon I will need the help from a friendly LBS for various bits and bobs.

Been dropping into one or two local shops to gauge how in tune they are with an OCD retro freak like me and their general reaction to a 15 year old pair of suspension forks or component...

What are your experiences and furthermore name some of your bike shops that 'get it'...

Oh and feel free to recommend any Surrey based retro friendly bike shops!

The guys are Somerset Bike Centre are completely puzzled by requests for things they have not stocked for years, but are doing their best to help.

It has to be said that Dave (the owner) is fluent in retro, as he started the business back in the late 1980's and supplied me with much of my kit and several bikes / frames in the past.

I haven't been to any of the Bristol shops yet.

Um ... me ! (& my shop!)

Sorry if I'm breaking a self-promo rule, simply replying

Based in sunny Newbury, Berkshire.

Lover of all things retro, road/mtb/bmx .. I always try to help out any customers/repairs as best as possible. Even been known to donate the odd part to help out! (rare mind haha!)

As for Bristol, from my rep' days, by far the best was Bristol bike workshop. They do quite a few S/H bikes as well, rare for shops these days.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Try Nirvana in Westcott near Dorking, they used to stock Rocky Mountain, Dekerf & Kona Bitd & i've been told they still "get" retro ;)

I know they are a million miles away from anyone in the world! but the cycle centre in Penzance has been my LBS for the last seventeen years. They have put up with my " I don't do rattles" attitude and would you mind just swapping all the kit from this bike onto this frame by midday please? oh, and I need a pair of wheels built to ride home on!! with humour and a "we can fix that" mantra.

I have had countless bikes built and fettled by jm and Ian 'Bunny' Warren and latterly little Mikey of http://www.velocake.co.uk/ fame.

Top bike shop, top knowledge, top friends.

I love you guys!

The guys in McDonald cycles in Edinburgh are helpful, and when I was in a while ago one of them had just bought himself a nice 90's Kona. Also in Edinburgh Eastside Bikes are good.

The lads at The Bike Shop in Skipton don't snigger at retro gear and if I needed them too would be happy to fix an old bike without trying to sell me a new one. Think one of the spanner monkeys has an Orange Prestige as well
