Retro bikes with a new school twist,

Nope, still don't get it,guess its cos I've gone all period correct on my latest build and it just seems right, new parts especially sus forks, just seem wrong.
Its all personal preference of course but some builds are just plain ugly with a nice frame hidden underneath it all ;)

Would be interesting to take a top-of-the-line Bridgestone from 1989-1991, such as the MB-zip and mount modern components, say a full XTR group (with V-brakes) on it.

Those kind of frames are not made anymore (these days if it is steel, it has to be either 29", singlespeed or both because that is the new fads it seems) so it would be a neat experiment and would probably look totally bad-ass IMHO.

I just noticed that Airo Orange have the same back end as the first gen Orange MsIsle, how interesting.

All we need now is for someone to use a 2010 sus frame and dress it with XC Pro,cantis, thumbies, coupe de luxe, the lot

about to open pandoras box...............again lol,and will probobly keep doing so,i blame awkward kid for making me do it with the pace, non pace forks...........feck yeh!!!

Now now! You did because it makes sense!

I love retrobike's and retro builds... but i also love riding my bike! I remember taking a face full of dirt snapping a set of Rockshox Mag21's back in the day! Just an example but i've kept my good looks for this long i dont want to wreck them at this point in my life! That and come on... Look at my Pace! She really does ride as good as she looks! Retro yes! But how many of you watch your favorite film on VHS? Make a cuppa from the pot on the stove and listen to music on you Walkman tape players? Dont get me wrong i've a room full of vinyl, my fav film is from the 70's but i watch it on Blue-ray, my TV's not LCD/Plasma etc and today I've spent it listening to an old 90's indie track on my iphone! Just because i want quality as i get older! Thats what counts for me, and i love it! Maverick? Renegade? If the cap fits!

Oh thats my Microwave not my TV before anyone says anything

yep its identical, i have a MsIsle to and its shocking, but then again the airos rather a strange bike it dont real fit in to any "boxes" as such,

I thnk thats why i perfer it to the MsIsile

Some of the build I don't get, a skinny steel frame dressed in modern chunky components and big forks doesn't look right to my eye.

Or dressing a 10 year old frame with modern parts is not really "retro with new skool twist" to me, it's just an older frame with new parts :?

Think i'm missing the point, having said that, i like that Kona :p

It's all about the frame for me. And being able to use it, and it still keep up with "Modern" bikes. I can undersand concours scrutineering for garage queens and museum pieces, like the Yetis, but for stuff you want to ride everyday, it seems to make no sense to continue to use 20 year old components when the modern stuff works better and will not break as easily.

The rest is just snobbery.

Remember that recent mag article where they took out some classic retrobikes and rode them against a 2009 full suzzer? And they basically laughed the old bikes out of the forest, in terms of riding positions, geometry, handling and braking. Well, I think old bikes deserve better. Many of these deficiencies can be addressed with modern kit, so why not enjoy blasting past 5 grands worth of carbon on a 20 year old steel frame?
