Merry Christmas everybody!
Its finally done and finished! After more than 1,5 years in the making, I now love to introduce my repro FUNK rigid-fat-fork. I think until now, not more than 5 people knew that I was making these happen and resurrecting them back to life.
At this point, I really have to thank especially 2 of those 5 people for supporting me a great deal. One gave me his original fork to check it out for more than 4 months, the other one shared ideas and thoughts and had personal contact to Daryl Funk himself, getting me approval and his blessing to re-create his iconic fat rigid fork. For the first batch, I built 5 forks and I love to stress out, that these have all been made for my very own personal projects and restorations. One of them is a gift and „thank you“ for all the help. If you read this, you know who you are!
I have to add that 12 of these 18 months making-time was just waiting for other people to complete their share of work on this! I dont blame myself but the others
*haha*
Now if you find anything vulgar about the fat-fork!? Dont worry, we all did. And hell, did we love it! Yes, that is how it its original, that is how it has been done! Any „flaws“, outdated details or things that could have been constructed „better“ dont mean anything. I happily rebuilt it just the way it was in about 1991 to complete my projects original-like and didnt want it any other way. If your personal taste and experience with bicycles startet in the later 2000s, you might find this monster quite puzzling.
I am proud to say, that this fork has been manufactured to the very highest bicycle frame & fork building standards in Germany (by me, my metal machining guy) and legendary engineer and bicycle builder Dan Chambers of the United Kingdom (for weldings & heat treatment).
Equipped with 1 1/4" all titanium inches (grade 5) steerer tube, titanium cantilever bosses, titanium fastening screws and titanium nuts. The steerer tube can be changed very easily. Also to smaller diameters with the help of an aluminium shim - just as FUNK did it back then with their suspension forks as well.
This fork (PT01) you see in the pictures, I painted in the original FUNK „House Of Kolor“ Shimrin Designer pearls color „Hot Pink“. The very same original color that FUNK used at the beginning of the 1990s. Finally painting this thing 3 days ago was maximum fun, seeing this finally come together and being finished!
You really cant describe the feeling when you spray your cleat coat over this and you see it shine like crazy for the very first time under the lights of your workshop.
All decals I made myself from scratch and start to finish, too and decided to place them under the clear coating.
Yesterday night, I gave it a good wet sanding with 3k and 5k grit and a polish and there ya go! …Project done!
Thank you everybody involved in this
