recommend me some disc brakes....

Currently running BB7 mechanicals, which are around 350g per wheel, including calipers/rotors and bolts....

So I'm thinking about going hydraulic, but need something of matching weight (circa 250g for the caliper only)

so what are my options then people..

i have full hope set up c2 calipers with hope ti glide hubs never had worries with good stopping power but what i read ti hubs are old hat so parts are hard ish to find but c2's are a common site and reasonable prices

Magura Martas, if you want light (330gm each end, inc everything!) or Louise, if you're not too fussed about weight(an extra 100gms).
I love mine. There may be more powerful or lighter brakes out there, but I really don't care. 160mm each end will stop my 85kg bulk quite happily, modulation is superb, and they're simple. Bleeding is a 2min job and you don't even need to do that when trimming the hoses.
Martas have been around for nearly ten years, each year getting better. Louises the same, but they're more adjustable .
Expect to pay £100 -£150 for a good pair.
Chain reaction also have intermittent special offers.

What he said, I really rate the Martas, they can be a bit finicky to adjust though. Mind you I've just picked up some Fomula K24s, quite light and seem to be very good.

I'm a big fan of Formula RX brakes, but they can be tricky to set up.
They have plenty of stopping power though. I refer to mine as "the invisible wall".

As for weight, the RX weighs either 430g (180mm front, measured) or 360g (160mm back, measured).
That's per individual brake, of course. Keeping the weight of the discs themselves in mind, a caliper + lever would be around 250g

XTR M985. 211g front, 245g rear (Caliper, Hose and Brake lever). Enough power to send you over the bars with one finger, and good modulation.

I'm a big fan of Shimano brakes, but I'm not sure that they do too well in the weight stakes.

Formula seem to have a great power to weight ratio. Only downside is spares are outrageously expensive.
