Rare Retrobikes...

In 1995/6 Trek made a root beer coloured 990 steel framed bike.

That was a stunning looking bike - unfortunately they nobbled it (in my eyes/legs) by giving it a top tube 1" shorter than that on their aluminium and carbon frames.

I'd love to see one of these again.

And I guess this is my holy grail...

Seeing as I broke two... I'm not even sure I would like another; but I do wonder what happened to the one I broke a canti pivot off? I believe it was "fixed" and ridden by an employee of Trek-UK.

and yeah , the low end stuff we all started on like gt timberlines, marin palisades, the raleigh mirage and the trek 830's :?:

Not to diss anyone's first bike (because we all loved em) but this thead has derailed if we're talking about 'rare' Trek 830s ;)

Oh, I'm sorry I dont see any on this site !, actually I can't remember the last time I saw a 300LX equipped bike on this site or locally.

they must be getting rarer. nobody said expensive.

Well from my view piont i think you could be right Mr K. certainly its the case with large number of people.
Me personnally i like Trimble for the way they ride & looks. Same for Kleins too.
Plus most of the mass produced bike were boring. I nearly bought a Raligh Mustang which was my 1st dare i say mtb. It would have been my garage queen. What stopped me was i have no space for a queen.

RBG has a point - don't think I've ever seen a Raleigh Montage on here, or at the other end of the spectrum a Gary Fisher CR-1?

Rare: "thinly distributed over an area; few and widely separated"

I went onto two ebays right now and found two for sale.

Look I dont want to turn this discussion into a "cool or not" debate, but seriously, IMO, rare has to mean something hard to find.

Semantics

I guarantee you won't be able to find any of my bikes for sale, anywhere - PERIOD!

How rare is my collection then!!!!

Mr K

personally I think my unicorn is a mid eightys Bright yellow Muddy Fox Explorer.

Not a rubbish bike, but not a great oneand a real piece of UK Mountain bike history. It was the first mountain bike I owned in about '84-'85 and I'd love another, wouldn't want to ride it, just own one again.

Never seen a good one since.

I kinda agree with Ameybrook.

Do you really want to see pics of partly restored Raleigh Lizards, Mirages etc just because we had them back in the day?

:?

Oh you do? Ok I'll shut up.

Besides we do see a good few FireMountains and Rock Hoppers on here and these were specced with fairly low end componentry - thinking of 300lx for the Kona and pre-LX for the Speccys etc.

Give me some horny pics of a restored Funk or Goat any day.

I'm still waiting to see the formula 1 restored, can't remember who bought it but whoever it was hurry up  Must be pretty rare.
