Grrrrrr
I cant remember what the Trek number was, but do you remember the first Trek full sus.
It had a purple swingarm at the back.
I think Jo Burt had Mint Sauce riding it for a bit!
Never seen one in the flesh................ :(

Trek 9000

bounce bounce bounce bounce

Had a go on one once. It felt like you had extreme Biopace rings on it even though they were round!

Go figure...

I find an inherent contradiction in our collective hobby - the rarer a bike seems to be, the more people seem to say they want one and, lo and behold, they largely seem to start turning up as a result of this critical mass of thinking! When they do, suddenly our corporate lust fades and one is left seemingly having to search for a new and harder love, something you don't actually want to find, or see! The slide begins...

You think I'm joking? Well the mythical threads are the ones that seem keep the global elite crew excited, those fortunate (?) addicts who have actually obtained those holy grail machines having to turn their attentions to chase parts and bikes that really didn't or don't exist - to keep ahead of the pack eg. XTR thumbies???!

So we are left with the world of fine art analogy - the item is great if the designer is dead/not working/been bought out by Trek; the item is greater if it was a race machine with pedigree/a one-off/a prototype/it didn't actually work/or was too dangerous to sell to the public; and truly the greatest if it is only believed to exist (but actually no-one has seen one let alone got one - even the designer/manufacturer)....!

If the pinnacle of our hobby has to be the one off, does that then leave us with a pastime that has one-up-manship as its core driver....?

Seriuosly speaking Neil, that is a very true sentiment there.

So shall we all start reversing the trend and do up mass market Raleigh's and Apollo's and Carerra's. ?

I like the Apollo that ripped the 88 stumpy but reversed the green and pink to front and rear respectively.

this could be a whole new world.

(bet you'd be surprised how well they stood up to 'normal' cross country riding too). Might us realise you don't need to spend thousands on a bike after all.

Hooger boogers (one on ebay tho)

Ridgebacks - must have been hundreds sold.

Not to diss anyone's first bike (because we all loved em) but this thead has derailed if we're talking about 'rare' Trek 830s ;)
